amarcord Vocal Summer Class

With the Vocal Summer Class for a cappella ensembles, the Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz succeeded in 2016 in reviving the almost legendary Summer Classes of past years with the Hilliard Ensemble or the King's Singers. Since then, Vocal Summer Classes have been held annually in Engers. After 2016 and 2018, amarcord, one of the best internationally active a cappella ensembles, could again be won for 2021 to work intensively with the course participants on the high art of ensemble singing during a late summer week in Engers. Several public performances will flank the workshop.

Since 1992, the five former St. Thomas Choir boys from Leipzig have been traveling the world and are one of the most important ensembles of this kind, and not only because of their hosting of the Leipzig A-Cappella Festival.

The vocal ensemble amarcord was founded in 1992 by members of the Leipzig St. Thomas Boys Choir to turn their shared passion for vocal music into a profession. Today - many highly acclaimed CD recordings, awards and international performances later - amarcord has long been a big name in the world of vocal ensembles.
Five voices that together feel the character of a piece and make it resonate for the listeners. Five musicians who are so perfectly attuned to each other that, as vocal instruments, they cover the range of an entire orchestra. With amarcord, one becomes aware again: singing is the most natural form of music - produced with the body and made for the soul of man.
As an ensemble, amarcord is more variable than probably any other. With their roots in the Bach city of Leipzig, the five singers also intonate the vocal heritage of Johann Sebastian Bach with somnambulistic stylistic confidence, arrange folk songs in surprising new ways, and give songs from jazz and soul their own drive.
Behind the success of amarcord is the curiosity for music of every kind and color; for its history, works, tradition and uniqueness. This has resulted in a musical diversity over the years that has taken the musicians to over 50 countries. There, amarcord always keeps an open ear for the musical tradition of a culture and finds inspiration for future programs.
In the workshop, the five singers work with the participating a cappella ensembles on repertoire, intonation, positioning, stage presence and reveal further tips and tricks.
