Chorcoaching Pop / Jazz


in cooperation with the CV RLP the CV of the Palatinate and the BMU


This course focuses on rehearsal work in popular choral music and is aimed at choral singers and choral conductors - also from the school sector - with advanced vocal skills.

Erik Sohn works with the participants on pop/jazz arrangements under the following questions:

 

- How is the groove in the choir unified?

- How are pop-specific vocal sounds created?

- What is important for a consistent and stable timing?

- What is important for an articulation corresponding to the different styles of popular music?

- How do you create uniform sound design and phrasing?

 

 

Teaching team:

Erik Sohn, who grew up in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, studied music and German language and literature in Cologne. After the state examination he took up singing studies in Dortmund with Prof. Berthold Schmid. In addition to his active work as a classical concert singer, Erik Sohn is in demand as a coach for vocal ensembles, a cappella bands and choirs in the field of popular vocal music. He has been a lecturer in this field since 2006 and professor at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2011. Together with Stephan Görg he is the director of the jazz-pop choir "Vocal Journey" and initiator of the annual festival for popular vocal music "voc.cologne".
