Jazz 17 - Jazz and popular singing



This course is about the many fascinating possibilities of jazz and popular singing. Other than an (ideally) advanced vocal level and a desire to sing and try things out, no previous experience is necessary. We will work on everything that is necessary to sing a song well: Dynamics, expression, timing, groove, lyric work, variation of melodies. The course is suitable for dedicated hobby singers as well as professional singers.

Teaching team:

Alexander Gelhausen studied music education and jazz singing in Cologne. He is head of the jazz and popular singing department at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz. He works as a freelance jazz singer, speaker and vocal coach, gives workshops, vocal teacher trainings and lectures on topics of vocal technique, vocal pedagogy, jazz improvisation and jazz research.
