SAGO - The Songwriting School

in cooperation with the Kultursommer RLP

Trusting in the long-term effect of art, even if the market favors quick effects - that is the message of SAGO, the Academy for Poetry and Music. It was founded in 1989 by Chri-stof Stählin. He created a collegial meeting place for all those who cannot be fully accommodated in the pigeonholes of classical, pop and jazz - analogous to trifles that ended up in old kitchen buffets in the no longer used "sago compartment". Precision of observation and subtlety of musical expression - this is the focus of the eyes and ears of the school, which has already been visited by celebrities such as Judith Holofernes, Eckart von Hirschhausen, Bodo Wartke and Sebstian Krämer. A week of intensive creative work in exchange with each other - SAGO offers this unique opportunity to all those who want to perform their own songs and absorb new impulses.

Teaching team:

Martin Betz, Christoph Stählin's assistant for many years, lives in Berlin as an author, musician and comedian. In addition to studying historical keyboard instruments, he has a master's degree in German and musicology. He received awards, among others, as Esslinger Bahnwärter and Stadtschreiber von Ottendorf.

Matthias Binner is a certified Germanist, historian and pedagogue and works as a pianist, composer and musical director for renowned theater, cabaret and show productions. He wrote three operettas staged at German theaters as well as a variety of songs for himself and other performers. In 2015, his first solo CD was released.
