International Guitar Festival

The Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy is an international guitar festival held annually in Koblenz.

The Koblenz International Guitar Festival was founded in 1992 by composer and music educator Georg Schmitz - initially under the name Internationales Pfingstseminar. Among the festival's first instructors were classical guitarist and music educator Hubert Käppel and German jazz guitarist Frank Haunschild.

Since its beginnings, the festival has grown into a renowned and internationally acclaimed guitar festival. Every year it includes a week of concerts, workshops, master classes and lectures on all aspects of the classical guitar. Since 1993 it has organized the Koblenz International Guitar Competition - which has been called the Koblenz International Guitar Competition "Hubert Käppel" since 2004 - a challenging guitar competition, and with its Junior Guitar Academy it promotes young guitarists from infancy onwards with individual lessons and technical group sessions. In addition, numerous guitar makers, music publishers and string manufacturers are represented with their latest products.
