amarcord Vocal Summer Class

in cooperation with the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz

With the amarcord Vocal Summer Class for a cappella ensembles, the Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz 2024 is continuing the tradition of the almost legendary summer classes with the Hilliard Ensemble, King's Singers, Singer Pur and Voces8, which were resumed in 2016. For 2024, amarcord, one of the best internationally active a cappella ensembles, has once again been invited to spend a late summer week in Engers working intensively with the course participants on the fine art of ensemble singing.

The five former St. Thomas Boys Choir members from Leipzig have been touring the world since 1992 and are one of the most important ensembles of their kind, and not just because they organize the Leipzig A Cappella Festival.

In the Vocal Summer Class, all members of amarcord work as teachers and thus bring different aspects of ensemble work into the coaching units. Several concerts by amarcord take place as part of the Summer Class, which are co-organized by the participants if they are of an appropriate quality.

The course is aimed at a cappella ensembles with 3-12 singers, who generally work without a conductor.

The vocal ensemble amarcord was founded in 1992 by members of the Leipzig St Thomas Choir to turn their shared passion for vocal music into a profession. Today - many highly acclaimed CD recordings, awards and international appearances later - amarcord has long been a household name in the world of vocal ensembles. Five voices that sense the character of a piece together and make it resonate for the listener. Five musicians who are so perfectly attuned to each other that as vocal instruments they cover the range of an entire orchestra. With amarcord, we realise once again that singing is the most natural form of music - produced with the body and made for the soul of man. As an ensemble, amarcord is more variable than almost any other. With their roots in the Bach city of Leipzig, the five singers also intonate the vocal legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach with somnambulistic stylistic confidence, arrange folk songs in surprising new ways and give songs from jazz and soul their own drive. Behind amarcord's success lies a curiosity for music of all kinds and colours; for its history, works, tradition and uniqueness. Over the years, this has resulted in a musical diversity that has taken the musicians to over 50 countries. There, amarcord always keeps an open ear for the musical traditions of a culture and finds inspiration for future programmes. In the workshop, the five singers work with the participating a cappella ensembles on repertoire, intonation, positioning, stage presence and reveal further tips and tricks.
