Future Jazz RLP – Academy
A series of workshops specifically designed to cover topics that jazz musicians need to develop their careers: from funding and self-organisation to DIY recording and performance. The focus is on hands-on workshops with a direct practical application. The content is structured in such a way that it can be directly applied to the participants’ own projects.
We’ll be spending a weekend together at the Landesmusikakademie Schloss Engers. You’ll get to know other jazz artists, and there’ll be plenty of time for discussion, live music and jam sessions. On Saturday, the first workshop will focus on the theme of artistic identity on stage. In the evening, we’ll put this into practice in a joint concert, which will flow into an open jam session. On Sunday, building on what we’ve learnt, we’ll move on to Part 2 of the workshop, focusing on concert design. This workshop isn’t about theoretical aspects of performance; instead, we’ll take a concrete and practical approach to live concerts. How can you express your identity freely and authentically on stage?
Eligibility
Jazz musicians aged between 18 and 35 are eligible to apply. It is important that you have a connection to Rhineland-Palatinate — for example, because your family lives there, you play concerts there, study there, live there or work there. If you wish, you can be accommodated together with your bandmates. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided for everyone.

• A concert evening followed by an open jam session
Friday: Arrival
From 4.00 pm: Check-in and getting to know the participating acts. The evening begins with a group dinner.
Saturday: Artist Identity
After breakfast, the first workshop with Rixa begins: What defines you as an artist? What values and attitudes shape your music — and how does that come across on stage? You’ll explore your artistic identity creatively, with a practical focus on how this translates to a live performance. In the evening, all acts will give a concert to try out their initial ideas. Afterwards, the evening will flow into a free jam session. In between, there will be a group lunch and dinner, and plenty of time to chat.
Sunday: Concert Design
After breakfast, we’ll continue with the second part of the workshop: Concerts are more than just music — they create atmosphere, connection and experiences. Together, we’ll reflect on the previous evening’s concerts. The focus will be on stage presence, dramaturgy, communication and authenticity. Through feedback, discussion and coaching, you’ll develop new perspectives on your performance and concrete ideas for future concerts. We’ll round off the day with a group lunch, followed by departure in the afternoon.

Rixa Knaack-Meyer
Rixa is a concert programmer and performance coach for female musicians who wish to present their artistic identity clearly and effectively. She brings clarity to the artistic process – with an eye for creative vision as well as for the structures of the music industry. She works with acts on key issues relating to their development: from positioning and artistic profile, through live performance, to release processes and professional direction. In doing so, she combines dramaturgical thinking with a holistic understanding of artistic and industry-specific contexts. Having grown up in a family of music producers, she understands the dynamics of the industry from a variety of perspectives. Her approach is interdisciplinary, precise and forward-looking – with the aim of empowering female artists in the long term, both artistically and professionally.  |
