Brass competition preparation



The course is primarily aimed at participants in the 2027 “Jugend musiziert” competition for solo brass. Prospective students and students are also cordially invited. In addition to preparing for the competition, participants will also work on brass fundamentals, repertoire, interpretation and various practice methods.

Teaching team:

Markus Schwind is a certified orchestral musician and music educator. He studied with Malte Burba, Guy Touvron, Markus Stockhausen and Peter Eötvös, among others. For more than 15 years Markus Schwind has dedicated himself to chamber music and orchestral playing on the international stage. With stylistic breadth ranging from early, especially baroque music to the music of our time, he performs with renowned ensembles and orchestras under the direction of Pierre Boulez, Sylvain Cambreling, Ingo Metzmacher and Kent Nagano, among others. In 2015/16 he followed invitations as principal trumpet of the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich, the Bochumer Sinfoniker and the Belgian ensemble Anima Eterna, among others. Markus Schwind has experience as a course lecturer at several universities and teaches at the Landesmusikgymnasium RLP.


Marvin Frey studied jazz trumpet with Rob Bruynen and Carlo Nardozza in Maastricht. He then earned his master’s degree at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen under Ryan Carniaux and Ansgar Striepens.  He performs as a guest musician in ensembles spanning a wide range of styles, such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and the WDR Big Band, as well as in theater and musical productions. 


Andreas Frese studied piano and song accompaniment with Ria Goetze and Irwin Gage in Düsseldorf and Zurich. In addition to lied interpretation with singers such as Christoph Prégardien and others, chamber music is his main focus, including with the Trio Ganymede.
