Klezmer and Balkan dances with live music

in cooperation with LAG Tanz RLP e.V.

Here in Germany, the lively music of the Jews and Roma of Eastern Europe and the Balkans is usually played in concert. With the rousing rhythms, however, the legs of the listeners twitch involuntarily. No wonder - after all, Yiddish dances and Balkan dances were and are danced to this celebratory music at weddings and other festivities for days and nights! All age groups are integrated, you usually don't need a partner and you quickly have the opportunity to communicate with others and find your own expression. The simple basic steps of the circle and line dances develop to the music as if by themselves, are easy to learn even without previous experience and are a lot of fun. Although there are of course many good sound recordings, it is a special experience to dance to authentic live music.

Teaching team:

The successful klezmer clarinetist and singer Georg Brinkmann learned Yiddish dance from teachers in New York, Krakow, Montreal, Weimar and Fürth. He has been leading balls and workshops in Yiddish dance for over 10 years. Stefanie Hölzle plays the violin in various music groups - including the duo "Tangoyim" with Daniel Marsch (an experienced and sought-after accordionist in various klezmer and world music bands) - and has been teaching Balkan and other Eastern European dances for over 15 years. Together, the three instructors regularly offer dance workshops with live music, e.g. at the Klezmer Tantshoyz in Bonn or at the Farbrausch dance festival in Wuppertal.
