Historical Country Dances and Contredanses

in cooperation with LAG Tanz RLP e.V.

The fashion for country dances and contredanses offers a huge repertoire of European ballroom dances from the 17th to the 18th century. Beginners can quickly discover the pleasure of varied figures and the joy of meeting other dancers to wonderful music. The cross-section through the current dance styles and fashions of the epochs with rich step material and improvisation possibilities allows experienced dancers to further refine their skills. A historical classification of the dance and cultural background is also part of the weekend.
The exact course content also depends on the needs and wishes of the participants (wishes or comments are welcome when registering).

Historical costumes are not mandatory - but would certainly add to the unusual dance experience!

Teaching team:

Mareike Greb is a freelance dancer and actress and has long been a fixture on the historical dance scene. After training in ballet, she began to devote herself to historical dance art and performance practice in her youth and, in addition to her membership of the Ensemble Tourdion (Saarland), studied with Lieven Baert, Véronique Daniels, Markus Lehner, Barbara Sparti, Kaj Sylegard and Béatrice Massin, among others. She teaches at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater and is active as a national and international solo artist and in various ensembles. Since studying theater studies, musicology and comparative literature at the University of Leipzig, she has also worked intensively on dance and music from the early modern period to the Baroque, reconstructing from historical sources and combining theory and stage practice to create a well-founded but exciting stage concept that always seeks contact with the audience. She has worked as a choreographer at the Leipzig Light Festival, for the ARD fairytale series “Sechs auf einen Streich”, the children's series “Schloss Einstein” and for various theaters, including the Sommerkomödie Erfurt. Mareike's patient and charming guidance makes her events a special experience.
