JAZZ 43 / Jazz in the duo - Practical experience and diversity

with the Fink-Körner-Duo

The Art of Playing in Duos and Small Jazz Ensembles
Practical Application & Diversity – Playing, Experimenting, Applying

The course is aimed at all musicians who have experience in jazz improvisation
or wish to gain such experience. The course content and practice methods are tailored individually to the
needs and interests of the participants.

The objectives are to learn essential playing techniques for performing in a duo or
small ensemble, to adapt various musical pieces, to develop one’s own
musical language, and to achieve confidence and flexibility in ensemble playing. In terms of content,
the focus is on timing, phrasing, sound, blending and interaction; on mutual support
and stabilisation; on rhythmically and harmonically supportive accompaniment and soloing; and on the
shaping of intros and outros.

This course is particularly aimed at participants who play frequently in various
line-ups, wish to experiment with different styles in practice, and want to
broaden their musical repertoire and playing experience.
