JAZZ 41 / Jazz in duo and small ensemble

with the Fink-Körner-Duo

The Art of Playing in Duos and Small Ensembles in Jazz
In-depth Study & Methodology – Understanding, Practising, Developing Further

The course is aimed at all musicians who have experience in jazz improvisation
or wish to gain such experience. The course content and practice methods are tailored individually to the
needs and interests of the participants.

The objectives are to learn essential playing techniques for performing in a duo or
small ensemble, to adapt various musical pieces, to develop one’s own
musical language, and to achieve confidence and flexibility in ensemble playing. In terms of content,
the focus is on timing, phrasing, sound, blending and interaction; on mutual support
and stabilisation; on rhythmically and harmonically supportive accompaniment and soloing; and on the
composition of intros and outros.

This course is particularly aimed at participants who wish to
explore individual topics in greater depth, gain a deeper understanding of musical and stylistic connections, and
learn specific practice methods for their future independent study.

On the evening before the course begins (Saturday, 12 June), the Fink Körner Duo will be giving a concert at the “Kleines Landcafé” in Kerpen (Eifel). Course participants who are interested can attend this concert, then travel to Engers in the evening and check in at the Landesmusikakademie a day early at a reduced rate.
