with prof. Sheila Arnold
The course is aimed at ambitious young pianists, music students and advanced amateurs.
Sheila Arnold belongs to the new generation of pianists who feel equally at home on the modern concert grand and the fortepiano. Questions of sound aesthetics and "musical sound speech" in the sense of historically informed performance practice form an essential element of her playing and teaching. The physical, the breathing and the concept of resonance on the other hand are complementary to this.
Teaching in a workshop atmosphere is the aim. In addition to the individual lessons, there will be internal auditions in the evenings as well as a public final concert at Pianohaus Thilemann in Neuwied to test what has been worked out.

Sheila Arnold's artistic self-image as a pianist results from a constant curiosity about the tonal possibilities of her instrument and the experience of the language inherent in music. This can be heard not only in her CD “Ecoutez!” with the Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano by J. Cage as well as works by Debussy and Takemitsu or the recording with works by Franz Schubert. Her most recent recordings on her own 1862 Blüthner salon grand piano with works by Johannes Brahms also resemble a personal conversation with her instrument and her listeners in their intimacy. Her decades-long involvement with fortepianos from different eras is symbiotic with her experience on the modern concert grand. Thanks to outstanding successes at international competitions such as the Mozart Competition in Salzburg or the Concours Clara Haskil as well as numerous scholarships (such as the German National Academic Foundation or the German Music Council) and awards (such as the Mozart Prize of the Mozart Society Wiesbaden 1995), she has been able to establish an international career as a pianist. This has taken her to renowned orchestras such as the Beethovenhalle Orchestra Bonn, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and conductors such as Marc Soustrot, Michael Hofstetter, Jesus Lopez-Cobos in halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, the Leiszhalle Hamburg, Palao de la Musica Valencia and many more. Her stylistic diversity manifests itself in her radio and CD recordings. Her recordings with CAvi-Records have received the highest acclaim from the international press. Her CD with works by Brahms (Handel Variations) and Schumann (Kinderszenen) was awarded the French “Choc” prize and her CD “Ecoutez!” as well as her duo recordings with the guitarist Alexander-Sergei Ramirez and the complete recordings for violin and piano by Mel Bonis with the violinist Sandrine Cantoreggi and trios with the cellist Gustav Rivinius and the flautist Michael Faust were longlisted for the German Record Prize. She is also co-editor of the new edition of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano pieces published by Wiener Urtext 2020 and has been invited several times to give lectures on practical performance issues. For example, for the EPTA Germany and the symposium “200 Years of the Hammerklavier Sonata” in Siegburg/Bonn. Sheila Arnold is a professor at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, works as a juror and regularly gives international master classes. Her students have won prizes at national and international piano competitions.
